Indian Railways Increases Speed of 549 Trains Under TAG 2026
Indian Railways has increased the speed of 549 existing trains under the new “Timetable of Trains 2026” (TAG 2026), which will reduce passenger travel time and improve punctuality. The speed of 376 trains has been increased by 5 to 15 minutes, 105 trains by 16 to 30 minutes, 48 trains by 31 to 59 minutes, and 20 trains by 60 minutes or more. The objective of this initiative is to make train operations more efficient and provide faster services to passengers.
Launch of 122 New Train Services
Under TAG 2026, Indian Railways has also started the operation of a total of 122 new train services, which include premium, express, and passenger services. These new trains include 28 Vande Bharat, 26 Amrit Bharat, and 60 mail and express services. The purpose of introducing new train services is to further strengthen rail connectivity across the country and provide more options to passengers.
Expansion and Service Upgradation Under TAG 2026
Under the TAG 2026 plan, not only have new trains been added, but 86 existing trains have also been extended, and 10 trains have been upgraded to the superfast category, which will enhance their operational standards. The aim of these changes is to increase the capacity of the rail network and improve the quality of services.
Improvement in Existing Services and Time Savings
As a result of the speed increase of a large number of trains, there has been an overall reduction in passenger travel time. The revision of speeds for 549 trains makes journeys faster and more time bound, while also improving the efficiency of rail operations. This improvement will help passengers reach their destinations on time and enhance the competitiveness of rail services.
Changes Across Different Railway Zones
TAG 2026 changes have also been implemented across various railway zones in India, including speed enhancements and the operation of new services. In regions such as South Western Railway, East Central Railway, and North Western Railway, the speed of several trains has been significantly increased, while new services have also been introduced in different zones. This change expands the operational efficiency and service coverage of the rail network across the country.
