Under the process of leadership transition in the Bharatiya Janata Party, Nitin Nabin has been elected unopposed as the party’s national president. Returning Officer K. Laxman, while making the formal announcement, stated that a total of 37 nomination papers were filed for the post of president and all the nominations were found to be valid. Among the proposers of these nominations was Prime Minister Narendra Modi. At 45 years of age, Nitin Navin is now set to take charge of the country’s largest political party, making him one of the youngest national presidents in the history of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Within the party organization, this development is being seen as the rise of a new generation of leadership that reflects a balance of organizational discipline, electoral experience, and political continuity.
Nomination process and presence of senior leaders
During the nomination of Nitin Nabin, a strong presence of the party’s top leadership was witnessed. Former national president J. P. Nadda, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari, Dharmendra Pradhan, Bhupender Yadav, and Kiren Rijiju were present when the nomination papers were submitted to the Returning Officer. In addition, leaders from several states, including Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu, filed additional nominations. The entire process has been viewed as a sign of broad support for Nitin Nabin within the party and a reflection of organizational consensus. His unopposed election also indicates that no internal differences emerged within the party regarding the post of national president.
How the BJP president is elected
The national president of the Bharatiya Janata Party is elected through an electoral college comprising elected representatives of the party’s National Council and the councils of various states. The entire process is overseen by the party’s national returning officer. According to the rules, at least 20 members of a state’s electoral college can jointly propose the name of a person who has been an active member of the party for at least four terms and has completed 15 years of membership. In addition, this joint proposal must come from at least five such states where elections to the National Council have already been completed. In the case of Nitin Navin, all these conditions were fulfilled, and due to support from multiple states, his unopposed election became possible.
A look at assets and financial profile
With his election as national president, Nitin Navin’s financial profile has also come into focus. According to the affidavit filed during the Bihar Assembly Election 2025, his total assets amount to ₹3.08 crore. This includes both movable and immovable assets. As movable assets, Nitin Nabin and his family together have assets worth approximately ₹1.60 crore, while the value of immovable assets has been stated at around ₹1.47 crore. Along with this, he has liabilities of about ₹56.6 lakh towards banks and financial institutions, which form part of his total debts.
The affidavit also reveals that Nitin Nabin keeps a limited amount of cash. He has cash in hand amounting to only ₹35,000, while his wife has ₹25,000 in cash. Thus, the total cash held by the couple is around ₹60,000. In contrast, the amount deposited in banks and financial institutions is around ₹98.68 lakh. Additionally, he has invested approximately ₹6.6 lakh in financial instruments such as shares and bonds. This profile places him among those politicians whose declared assets are considered balanced.
Vehicles, jewellery, and political background
Nitin Nabin owns two SUV vehicles with a combined estimated market value of about ₹37.8 lakh. These include a Mahindra Scorpio and a Toyota Innova Crysta purchased in October 2022. In addition, Nitin Navin and his wife Deepmala Srivastava have declared gold jewellery worth approximately ₹11.3 lakh. In terms of immovable property, a plot located in Patna has been valued at around ₹1.18 crore, while land in the Dhukri area of Jharkhand has been valued at about ₹29 lakh. Most of these properties are registered in the name of his wife.
As for his political background, Nitin Nabin was born in Ranchi and is the son of senior BJP leader Naveen Kishore Prasad Sinha. He has been elected five times as a legislator from the Patna West and Bankipur constituencies. In the Bihar Assembly election, he defeated the Rashtriya Janata Dal candidate by more than 51,000 votes. According to the affidavit, his annual income in the financial year 2025–26 was ₹3.71 lakh, compared to ₹3.35 lakh in 2021–22. His wife’s annual income during the same period was recorded at approximately ₹1.12 lakh. Now, with his unopposed election as national president, Nitin Navin is set to take charge as the 12th president of the Bharatiya Janata Party, from whom an important role is expected in the coming electoral cycles and organizational expansion of the party.
